The Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, and veteran assistant coach Steve Spott are all part of a major coaching shuffle following the Stars' decision to part ways with Pete DeBoer.
According to a report from Taylor Newby for The Hockey News, the Bruins confirmed that Spott will join their coaching staff after three seasons in Dallas.
Spott had followed DeBoer from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Stars, helping guide Dallas to three consecutive Western Conference Final appearances.
Newby's full report covers Spott's new role and background.
Despite the deep playoff runs, DeBoer was dismissed after the Stars fell short of the Stanley Cup Final again, and Spott's departure soon followed.
For the first time in over a decade, he won't be standing behind DeBoer's bench, instead starting a new chapter in Boston.
Spott has been a trusted assistant for more than ten years, building a reputation for his work with special teams and player development.
His coaching path with DeBoer dates back nearly three decades, beginning with the OHL's Plymouth Whalers in 1997 before joining him in the NHL with San Jose, Vegas, and Dallas.
"Steve Spott's experience and track record with developing talent and managing special teams make him a strong addition to Boston's bench," Newby noted in his article
This shows the impact Spott could have as Sturm builds his staff for 2025-26.
I think this move shows how Boston is prioritizing structure and veteran insight as they prepare for another playoff push, while Dallas fully resets its coaching core for a fresh start.
