Following another heartbreaking elimination, Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner spoke to the media, and some of his comments rubbed fans the wrong way.

Edmonton Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner had a bare assessment following another heartbreaking end to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Oilers were defeated 5-1 by the Florida Panthers in Game 6 on Tuesday, their second year running that they're eliminated by Florida on the sport of hockey's largest stage.

Down in the series, Edmonton again depended on Skinner after Calvin Pickard started Game 5. But it was another bumpy start for the 26-year-old goalie, who surrendered three goals.

'We need to learn from this right away, right now. Letting it happen two times in a row is devastating.'

One resulted from a costly mistake in the middle frame. Carter Verhaeghe ripped a blue-line shot that Skinner could not clean up.

The puck popped off his glove and onto the stick of Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov, who sent it to Sam Reinhart for an easy tap-in, making it 3-0.

Skinner says that he arrived at the rink ready for every game

Though he was accused of inconsistency, Skinner did insist that he believed he arrived at the rink every night the same as ever.

'In my opinion, I think I showed up the same way. I thought results changed, as they always do. But for myself personally, I stayed pretty consistent. I was in my bubble, I was doing my own thing. It's weird being a goalie sometimes in a team sport, because sometimes you feel like you're an individual in a team game,' Skinner said.

These comments led to some fans going off on Skinner after the game on social media.

He wound up with a 7-7 record, 2.99 goals-against average, and .899 save percentage in the playoffs. He has a year left on his three-year, $7.8 million deal.

Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch credited blown early scoring chances as the game's primary difference. Edmonton had 29 shots and 25 from Florida, but could produce only one on the scoreboard, a third-period goal by Vasily Podkolzin.

Florida capitalized on its shots. Reinhart scored four goals, and Sam Bennett received playoff MVP honors as the Panthers claimed the Cup.

For Skinner and the Oilers, it's another frustrating end to the season that had the potential to be great.
