To finish up the 2025-26 season, the Devils took the ice against the Bruins at TD Garden on Tuesday. After being eliminated from playoff contention and having a rough season overall, the Devils were shut out 4-0 by Jeremy Swayman and the Bruins. This was Swayman’s 19th career shutout, stopping all 21 shots faced. David Pastrnak picked up his 100th point of the season with an assist, while Mark Kastelic netted two goals alongside tallies from Morgan Geekie and Viktor Arvidsson. The Bruins finished the regular season with back-to-back wins after a five-game losing streak and will now face the Buffalo Sabres in the Eastern Conference First Round.

Morgan Geekie opened the scoring only 53 seconds into the first period, scoring his 39th goal of the season to put the Bruins ahead 1-0, when David Pastrnak found Geekie in the slot for a quick wrister past Nico Daws short side. Pastrnak controlled the puck in the corner after a sustained forecheck before getting the puck to Geekie. At 13:46, Mark Kastelic made it 2-0 off a centering pass from Tanner Jeannot, who eluded two defenders in the corners before passing to Kastelic, who beat Daws five-hole. Kastelic struck again, extending Boston’s lead to 3-0 at 2:18, recording his 12th of the season after Mason Lohrei thwarted a breakout attempt, keeping the puck in the blue line before feeding Sean Kuraly at the bottom of the left circle for a one-touch delivery to Kastelic, who put it in off the crossbar. With eight seconds to go in the first, Viktor Arvidsson went for his 25th goal of the season to make it 4-0. He took a cross-crease pass from Pavel Zacha, who collected the rebound of Hampus Lindholm’s shot from the high slot after Daws denied him.

Game Notes:

– Jeremy Swayman’s shutout was his second of the season and the 18th of his career.

– Boston beat New Jersey to clinch Wild Card 1 and set up a first-round series with Buffalo. It’s their ninth playoff meeting and first since Boston’s six-game win in 2010. The Bruins are 6–2 in the previous eight matchups, while Buffalo’s wins came in 1999 and 1993 – the latter ending with Brad May’s overtime goal and Rick Jeanneret’s famous “May Day” call. …The Sabres will end their 14-year playoff drought in Game 1, the longest such streak broken since 10-year droughts by the 2017 Oilers and 2012 Panthers (coached by current Bruins coach Marco Sturm).

– Viktor Arvidsson became the first Bruins player since Jarome Iginla (30 in 2013–14) to score 25+ goals in his first season with the team.

– Pavel Zacha left the game after the first period to attend to a family matter.

– Tage Thompson won Olympic gold with Charlie McAvoy and Jeremy Swayman for Team USA in 2026. His father, Brent, captained the AHL’s Providence Bruins in 2004-05 and played alongside a 19-year-old Patrice Bergeron and current Bruins assistant Jay Leach.

– Nico Daws made a total of 22 saves for New Jersey.

– The Devils are missing the playoffs for the third time in the past five seasons.
