The 28-year-old d-man has proven to be a durable defenceman. This past year in Columbus had been no different. Moreover, his career-high came back in his second NHL season with 41 points. This season, things went smooth and he posted 33 points. Furthermore, his average ice time has been a strong indicator of his performance year-to-year and overall reliability. His season total is right around his career total of over 23-and-a-half minutes. Therefore, staying in a comfortable situation and the pressure that comes with potential future playoff drives shouldn’t be difficult. He has played well in his just two post-season appearances, where he totaled 22 games. Columbus is lucky to have him.
He was originally the Philadelphia Flyers seventh overall selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Since then he is getting close to 700 career games through nine NHL seasons. This is a good move to help solidify your blueline and he can contribute to a team in a number of different ways with his play style. He has always done well at combining strength, with just enough skill.
This Ivan Provorov deal was the move that kind of was anticipated for the Blue Jackets. They have played well, and general manager Don Waddell saw an opportunity to make a deal that works for player and team, and took it.
