With the 191st selection in the 2025 NHL Draft, the Edmonton Oilers have selected Daniel Salonen.

Salonen played in the second tier Finnish league as a backup on the Hokki Kajaani. He’s one of the rare types who catches with his right hand,
Season | Team | League | GP | GAA | SV% | Record |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2024-25 | Lukko U-20 | U20 SM-sarja | 25 | 1.55 | .933 | 23-1-0 |
2024–25 | Hokki Kajaani | Mestis | 8 | 2.53 | .909 | 4-3-1 |
The Oilers continue to stack up on goalie prospects after taking Eemil Vinni, Nathan Day, and Samuel Jonsson over the past few years. Not much is known about Salonen and I don’t think he was even in the top ten ranked for goalies. It’s a late sixth-rounder so you might as well take a shot at an unknown project, but there were better selections like Arvid Drott and Filip Ekberg still available.
The next steps for Salonen is to establish himself as a starter in the Mestis league before moving to the LIGA where he has to show he can be starter before coming to North America.
