Every goal that Alexander Ovechkin scores is a historic one after he passed Wayne Gretzky last season to become the NHL’s regular season all-time leader in goals scored, but there’s something nice about a round number.
It took him 13 games to get the three goals he needed, but Ovechkin reached a big milestone on Wednesday night. He became the first player in NHL history to reach 900 regular season goals with his second period goal in the 6-1 win over the St. Louis Blues.
After the game, Ovechkin was asked which of his 900 goals was the most memorable by the "NHL on TNT" broadcast.
“Probably the ones against you, man,” he joked with analyst and legendary goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who he scored on 24 times in 42 games.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Ovechkin is one of 21 players in NHL history to score at least 600 goals in the regular season. How many of those players can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
