JJ Peterka was traded to Utah on Wednesday night, and now, a top reporter has revealed the reason why the trade went down so suddenly.
The NHL world was eagerly anticipating action ahead of the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday, and late on Wednesday night, that's exactly what they got, as the Utah Mammoth acquired JJ Peterka from the Buffalo Sabres in a steal of a deal.
While it's a fantastic deal for Utah, who add yet another 23-year old to their amazing young core of Clayton Keller, Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther, but for the Sabres, it's safe to say that their fans will be highly underwhelmed.
However, the latest report from Mike Harrington may have revealed that their hand was forced, as the Buffalo Sports News reporter has noted that when he asked GM Kevyn Adams about Peterka potentially asking for a trade, Adams wouldn't answer, signalling that something had happened behind the scenes.
On top of that, Harrington points out that the immediate extension between Peterka and the Mammoth is a signal of just how fed up the 23-year old was with the Sabres, as the team once again continue to deal with baffling moves from Adams, who is regarded as one of the NHL's worst General Managers.
It's unclear whether or not Peterka forced his way to Utah, but one thing we do know is that he was fed up with how things were going in Buffalo, and with a clear lack of talent around him despite his success, things aren't getting better, and ultimately, this was the best move for his career as he's now locked in alongside a fantastic core.
