Rick Tocchet's future has now been decided, and shortly after the news broke, a report emerged of the massive deal that he signed with the Philadelphia Flyers.
After weeks of speculation, Rick Tocchet has finally found a new home in the NHL, with the veteran coach reportedly set to take over as the bench boss of the Philadelphia Flyers, a team he once played 11 seasons for in the NHL.
In the days before his signing, the Flyers fought off interest from Boston and Seattle to land their man, and now, it's been revealed that they're giving him a hefty contract to sign with them as well.
According to a report from Anthony SanFilippo on social media, the team are giving Tocchet a five-year deal worth $25 million, one incredibly similar to the one he turned down from the Vancouver Canucks to remain their Head Coach earlier this off-season.
That makes him one of the highest paid coaches in the NHL, and given that every team in the league that needed a Head Coach this summer was interested, it's no surprise that he garnered this type of a contract from the Flyers.
With a young core led by star rookie Matvei Michkov, the Flyers are clearly on the way out of their rebuild, and to make that happen they needed a stable coach for a long-time, and now with Tocchet behind the bench, this is a team that can build themselves into a Stanley Cup Playoffs contender for years to come if they can make some good trades, free agent signings and draft picks.
Ultimately, the belief around the league was that Rick Tocchet was the biggest name available after Mike Sullivan and Joel Quenneville were hired, and with many teams desperate to land him, the Flyers paid up, and now he'll return to the team he played with for 11 seasons as their newest spark of hope.
