The St. Louis Blues Makes a Free Agency Move

The St. Louis Blues are doing their part to keep the fun times rolling for the summer free agency frenzy. Today they announced that centre Nick Bjugstad signs with the Blue Note. Bjugstad will continue to provide depth size and skill upfront for his team. It’s keeping a strong signing season going in the NHL, despite the lack of high profile unrestricted free agents that were available.

STL Has Made a Transaction Involving Centre Nick Bjugstad

There had been thoughts that Bjugstad would’ve been moved at this past year’s trade deadline. However, it never did go down. The first two times he was traded mid-season, he joined the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Edmonton Oilers. In addition, he joined the teams to provide depth, but the results haven’t exactly been there personally. In 27 career playoff games, he has managed a mediocre eight points. However, that was in a responsible, nearly 14 minutes a game on average, so he has been effective in the past. His new team and himself are hoping that he is able to provide those type of consistent plays in powering a playoff run.

The Story from St. Louis’s Perspective

After a trip to the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season, the Blues are looking to improve their roster for now and the future.

Bjugstad will play on either the third or fourth line for the Blues. His role will depend on whether or not the Blues make additional move this summer. Should Radek Faksa not return, the Blues will likely need Bjugstad on the third-line centre spot. However, that is not a sure thing. It all depends on the Blues vision for the team and their corresponding moves.
