The Dallas Stars have built one of the NHL's most consistent contenders while still keeping an eye on the future, and the latest NHL.com rankings show a prospect pool stacked with talent at every position.
From towering defensemen to high-octane forwards, Dallas has multiple players knocking on the NHL door, some as soon as this season.
Stars director of player personnel Rich Peverley spoke with NHL.com about the top names in the system, and the future looks bright in Big D.
1. Lian Bichsel, D - Drafted 18th overall in 2022, the 6-foot-7 blueliner split last season between Dallas and AHL Texas, even suiting up for 18 playoff games. Peverley praised his toughness and physical play, saying he brings a certain edge rarely seen in today's game, making him a perfect complement to the Stars' high-skill defensemen. Projected NHL arrival: This season.
2. Emil Hemming, F - Selected 29th overall in 2024, the Finnish winger impressed in his OHL debut with Barrie. At 6-foot-2, he has size, skill, and a dangerous shot. Peverley noted his offensive gifts but emphasized the importance of refining his habits off the ice as he develops. Projected NHL arrival: Next season.
3. Cameron Schmidt, F - Taken 94th overall in 2025, the 5-foot-7 WHL sniper posted 40 goals last season. Peverley compared his style to former Stars prospect Logan Stankoven, highlighting his speed, hands, and fearlessness despite his size. Projected NHL arrival: Next season.
4. Tristan Bertucci, D - Drafted 61st overall in 2023, Bertucci skates well and shows flashes of offensive instincts. Peverley pointed out his hockey sense and the need to keep building strength. Projected NHL arrival: Next season.
5. Justin Hryckowian, F - Signed as a free agent in 2024, he was the AHL's top rookie last year with Texas. Peverley described him as a smart, two-way center who excels on face-offs and can play in all situations. Projected NHL arrival: This season.
Personally, I think at least two of these players will be regular contributors in Dallas within the next year, a scary thought for the rest of the league.
