The Vancouver Canucks, as it stands, hold the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, and according to The Athletic, they're most likely to keep that wild card spot.

While the season has been anything but perfect for the Vancouver Canucks, they've managed to keep themselves in the playoff picture enough to set up the most crucial stretch of games this season as they look to lock down a second straight playoff appearance.

Vancouver Canucks chances for playoffs increase

The margin for error in both the eastern and western conference playoff races is paper thin right now, and despite. tumultuous season for the Canucks and their fans, they are currently the odds on favourite for the second wild card spot.

Dom Luszczyszyn of the Athletic now handicaps the Canucks chances at securing a spot at 55%.

Dom projects the Canucks to finish with 92 points and to grab the second wild card spot, narrowly edging out the Blues by 3 points and the Calgary Flames by 4 points.

The projections are based on the team's current health, standing in the conference as of yesterday and upcoming strength of schedule.

Currently, the Canucks are tied with the Blues with a game in hand, while having two points on the Flames who have played one less game.

The Canucks have arguably the most pivotal game left in their season tonight as they take on the St. Louis Blues at 4:30 PST in St. Louis.
