The Hockey Hall of Fame welcomed one of the greatest defensemen in the NHL on June 24: Duncan Keith. The Chicago Blackhawks' legendary defenseman not only impacted the city of Chicago with massive contributions to three Stanley Cups, Duncan Keith influenced the way defensemen play the game. His impact goes beyond the personal accolades he accumulated through his 17 seasons in the NHL.

Keith was drafted 54th overall in the 2002 NHL Draft. His small stature and difficulties on the ice cast some doubt on how Keith's career would pan out with the Blackhawks. But no one could have predicted two Norris Trophies, a Conn Smythe, and three Stanley Cups.

Duncan Keith anchored Team Canada's blue line and has two Olympic Gold Medals to show for it. Keith was also an endurance machine, leading the Blackhawks in time on ice his entire tenure in Chicago.

Throughout 1,256 games played, Keith scored 106 goals and 646 total points. His tenacity for offensive reads and his ability to smartly pinch in the offensive zone created chaos for opponents' defensive schemes. Duncan Keith paved the way for small mobile defensemen to become superstars.

Duncan Keith spent 16 seasons with the Blackhawks before requesting a trade in 2021, which sent him to the Edmonton Oilers for his last NHL season. Keith's legacy in Chicago will be fondly remembered, and now with his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame, the chapter will close when number two hangs in the rafters of the United Center.
