Three Teams Eyeing Canucks Goaltender Ahead of Offseason Shakeup

NHL insider Darren Dreger has revealed that Canucks goalie Arturs Silovs is generating some interest around the league, and three teams are at the fore front.

The Vancouver Canucks recently signed Kevin Lankinen to a five-year, $4.5 million AAV extension and are eyeing a Thatcher Demko re-signing ahead of him reaching free agency this upcoming summer.

That leaves 24-year-old Arturs Silovs the odd man out in the net in Vancouver. Silovs can be on the trade board this offseason, reports Darren Dreger.

Even though healthier and younger than Demko, Demko's proven track record makes him this organization's priority. A few teams might now view Silovs as a solid trade chip.

The Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers, with GM Stan Bowman at the helm, are seeking to go younger after another Stanley Cup Final letdown. With John Gibson having been dealt and Joel Hofer off the board, Edmonton still lacks someone in goal.

Silovs is not yet an automatic NHL starter but just guided Abbotsford to an AHL championship, posting a 2.01 GAA, .931 SV%, and five shutouts in 24 playoff games.

He also looked solid in NHL playoff action against the Oilers a couple of seasons ago.

The Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed Frederik Andersen to a one-year contract, together with Pyotr Kochetkov. But Andersen is injury-prone and 35 years old, and Carolina knows they will have to make the change eventually.

A tandem of Silovs and Kochetkov would potentially have long-term value, particularly behind a good defensive system.

The Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins, which are on a rebuild with GM Kyle Dubas, are also a natural fit.

With Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic questionable, and Jesper Blomqvist still learning the ropes, Silovs would be an excellent choice to help bridge the gap. He'd likely receive more time to grow in Pittsburgh than in Edmonton or Carolina.
