The Chicago Blackhawks need to undergo a transformation. You have players making statements about playoffs or bust. Media members are making bold predictions that the team will be hunting for top wingers. This gets fans excited about the idea of fresh talent in Chicago. However, it has also gotten ideas flying about who Kyle Davidson should be targeting this summer. Why not take a look at three wingers the Hawks could target this summer via trade?
Matthew Knies seems to be on the top of every Hawks fan’s wish list. You can’t open up X or Reddit without seeing a post calling for him to come to Chicago or what a trade package could look like. Knies is a fantastic option for this team and would check many boxes. Knies would bring in much-needed size to the top six, as he is listed at 6’3″ and 234 pounds. A Physical player who throws his body around. He registered 140 hits last season, which would have benefited the Hawks team after the Colton Dach trade.
Knies also brings loads of offensive talent to the table as well. During his first three full seasons, he’s had two 20-goal seasons, along with a career high of 66 points last year. His powerful shot, combined with Connor Bedard’s puck movement, could lead to a breakout performance. He has an extremely team-friendly contract with a cap hit of just $7.75 million through the 2030/31 season. It’s a no-brainer, KD needs to explore the possibility of acquiring him. I just don’t see any reason for the Toronto Maple Leafs to part ways with him.
Getting it out of the way, the Dallas Stars would be insane to move on from Jason Robertson. He is an absolute gamer, having scored 80 points or more in each of the last four seasons. He has hit the 40-goal mark three times so far in his career. This is the offensive power that would absolutely take these Hawks to the next level. Dallas will have to get creative to sign him to an extension. Come July he is a restricted free agent. With limited cap space and limited quality pieces to move to make cap room, could he be available for trade? I do believe that a trade for him is more realistic than many think. However, the real question is what the Hawks can offer that would satisfy the Stars.
After a poor playoff performance from the Ottawa Senators, there has been lots of chatter that they could be looking to move on from Brady Tkachuk. On paper, he would be a great get for this Hawks team. Tkachuk has been a consistent goal scorer, reaching the 30-goal mark three times since 2021/22. Realistically, it could have had five years straight had he not been dealing with injuries. He is a physical player who isn’t afraid to throw his body around. He also isn’t afraid to drop the mitts to get his team going, which is something the Hawks really need.
Senators GM Steve Staios brushed off the rumors that he is looking to make this move. Tkachuk has full control of where he goes, which will hurt the return. The best bet is for the Senators is to keep him in Ottawa. However, could the Hawks dangle a package that gets the job done?
Kyle Davidson could potentially target these three players, but in reality, these are more than likely swing-for-the-fence examples. Personally, I believe these are a bit of wishful thinking, as all of them are big parts of their teams. However, the Hawks have the draft capital and the prospects that could really make a team reconsider their untouchables.
