T.J Brodie's Fate Revealed After Being Placed on Waivers by Blackhawks

T.J. Brodie was placed on waivers on Saturday, and now, he's officially set to be bought out by the Chicago Blackhawks after passing through waivers.

On Saturday, we saw the first player of the off-season placed on waivers, as the Chicago Blackhawks placed T.J. Brodie on unconditional waivers with the intention of buying him out.

On Sunday, he officially passed through waivers, and now, the team will be buying him out, meaning that T.J. Brodie will be another veteran option on the free agency market this summer.

In buying Brodie out, the team will pay him $3.233 million next season and $258,333 a year later, instead of what they would have paid him in 2025/26 which is $3.75 million against the salary cap.

It's a small saving, but with some big names out there in both trades and free agency, it's safe to say that the Blackhawks can use every dollar they've got as they look to finally add some elite level talent around Mitch Marner.

The other positive of this move from Chicago is it allows all of their young names like Kevin Korchinski, Artyom Levshunov and Sam Rinzel to keep their full-time roles with the team moving forward, and given the promise they showed late last season, this is definitely the best way forward.

Now, we will wait and see what the future holds for Brodie, a player that's been fantastic throughout his career in Calgary and Toronto, but as he ages, it's clear that he's nowhere near as effective as he once was, and with free agency now looming, it's unclear if another team will see him in a full-time NHL role moving forward.
