The Washington Capitals entered Tuesday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche shorthanded down two forwards, Nicklas Backstrom (illness) and TJ Oshie (paternity). But concern has shifted to Tom Wilson.
Wilson exited the game in the second period after blocking a shot. He dropped to a knee to block a hard shot from Avalanche defenseman Brad Hunt. The puck appeared to bounce hard off Wilson’s right leg.

Wilson was slow to get up before skating to the bench. The Capitals announced Wilson suffered a lower-body injury and would not return to the game. Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette said Wilson is day-to-day following the 3-2 loss.
Tuesday’s contest was Wilson’s eighth game since returning from a torn ACL in his left knee during last season’s first-round playoff series against the Florida Panthers.
Wilson has two goals, one assist, and a minus-seven rating in eight games.
