The Boston Bruins enter the 2025-26 season in the midst of a rebuild and a roster filled with a superstar, a few good veterans, and a mix of younger players trying to capture a spot in training camp. The Bruins have had a prospect pool that has been dead last in some rankings over the last few years. By his own admission, General Manager Don Sweeney knows that player development has been subpar. However, that trend is already moving upward with the drafting of Boston College standout James Hagens and the hiring of former Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid as Director of Player Development. The pool of young players is slowly improving, and The Bruins Benders Podcast released their top 30 recently. Here are players 21-25:
25. Jonathan Morello – Center – Boston University (NCAA)
Morello was selected in the fifth round (154th overall) by the Boston Bruins in the 2024 NHL Draft. The Toronto native played for Dubuque in the USHL during the 2024-25 season, totaling 28 points in 59 regular-season games. Morello is currently a freshman at Boston University and scored his first collegiate goal on October 10 against Colgate. Morello has good size at 6-foot-3 and blazing speed.
24. Brett Harrison – Center – Providence Bruins (AHL)
Harrison had some promise after being selected in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward tallied 130 points in two Ontario Hockey League seasons with Oshawa and Windsor. However, offensive production has been an issue with Providence. Harrison has totaled just 33 points in 96 games at the AHL level. At 22 years old, there is still time, but Harrison has slipped down the prospect rankings lately.
23. Cooper Simpson – Forward – Youngstown Phantoms – (USHL)
Simpson is an intriguing prospect after being drafted in the third round in 2025. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound winger was a star in Minnesota high school hockey and is 18th all-time in the state with 236 points in his high school career. Simpson is a point-per-game player in his short time in the USHL now and will attend the University of North Dakota for the 2026-27 season.
22. Philip Svedeback – Goaltender – Providence College (NCAA)
Svedeback is a solid goaltender who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-4 netminder is in his fourth season with the Friars after posting excellent numbers in his first three seasons. In his first three games in 2025-26, Svedeback has struggled a bit to a 3.05 goals against average and .897 save percentage. However, look for Svedeback to sign his entry-level contract with Boston after his senior season.
21. Elliott Groenewold – Defenseman – Quinnipiac University (NCAA)
The 19-year-old Vermont native impressed during the Bruins summer development camp after being drafted in the fourth round in the 2024 NHL Draft. In his freshman year, the mobile and physical defenseman posted four goals and eight assists in 38 games. This season, Groenewold has a goal and two assists in his first five games. The Bruins like his aggressive style.
