Former Rangers defenseman K'Andre Miller shared a heartwarming story involving his mom after being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes yesterday.
The New York Rangers are going through a major reset as the franchise tries to get back on the right track.
Several big name players have been moved recently including the former captain Jacob Trouba, and long-time Ranger Chris Kreider.
Yesterday, the team continued to make big moves by trading young defenseman K'Andre Miller to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The move had some Rangers fans scratching their heads, but according to Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers did not want to commit to Miller long-term.
But the 25-year-old blueliner was looking to sign the maximum eight-year deal possible under the current collective bargaining agreement, and now we know why.
Miller revealed that he was raised by his single mother Amy, and now that he has secured his own financial future, he can provide for her so she can retire early.
Miller has appeared in 368 career NHL games, all with the New York Rangers, who drafted him 22nd overall in 2018.
He has 36 career goals and 132 points in those games as well as a career rating of +49 and just 162 penalty minutes.
He hasn't been able to replicate his career-best season in 2022-23 where he potted 9 goals and added 34 assists for 43 points, but he has still produced at a fair rate for a middle-pair, two-way defenseman.
Perhaps he will even be able to unlock more of that offensive upside with his new club.
He Hurricanes are certainly paying him for it as he is now their highest-paid defenseman, passing Jacob Slavin with his 7.5 million dollar cap hit through the 2032-33 season.
