The 2024–25 NHL playoffs have finally arrived. After clinching first place in the Atlantic Division on Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres, the Toronto Maple Leafs are set to face the Ottawa Senators in round one. Here is the Toronto Maple Leafs’ first-round schedule:
*If necessary
The NHL hasn’t seen the Battle of Ontario in the playoffs since the 2003–03 season. Of the four times the two teams have met in the playoffs, the Maple Leafs have beaten the Senators in all four meetings. However, that was 22 years ago in a different era. Much has changed since then.
The Maple Leafs have had several first-round disappointments over the last eight seasons, while the Senators have missed the playoffs for seven straight years. The Maple Leafs will be facing a Senators team that is hungry, especially with how we’ve seen Brady Tkachuk play in the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament; he will be a menace.
However, this Maple Leafs team looks to be different from years past. Anthony Stolarz has the top save percentage in the NHL, while the defence, with the addition of Brandon Carlo, is solid. In addition, the team has bought into Craig Berube’s playoff-style hockey for most of the season. The Maple Leafs are poised to go on a deep run this year.
Hockey fans everywhere, get ready. The Battle of Ontario is going to be an exciting matchup, starting this Sunday!
