Tough Update for Canadiens' Playoff Hopes After Yesterday's Loss to Devils
Eric Bolte-Imagn Images

It's time to go over the important news from the last few hours for the Montreal Canadiens, especially following last night's loss at the Bell Centre.

As you're well aware, Martin St-Louis's squad worked hard to secure a point against the New Jersey Devils.

However, what happened elsewhere in the NHL really hurt the Canadiens in the playoff race.

A tough night for the Habs in the playoff race

Take a look at what the excellent Anthony Marcotte from BPM Sports mentioned before the Canadiens secured a valuable point by pushing the game to overtime.

"It's not the time for the Habs to drop a point in the third period right now.
Wins for Boston, Detroit, Ottawa, and Columbus. Losses only for Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh."

Unfortunately-or fortunately-the playoff race is so tight in the East that every lost point can really hurt.

That's the game that really hurt the Canadiens last night.

Ottawa defeated Toronto and grabbed two big points in the standings, giving the Sens a one-point lead over Montreal.

"The Ottawa Senators have moved to within just one point of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, thanks to a 2-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday.

Ottawa now has a one-point lead over the Montreal Canadiens, who sit in tenth place."

Do you think the Montreal Canadiens can still climb back and officially secure a playoff spot?

It's definitely still possible, but the race is extremely competitive.
