Travis Boyd scores twice, Toronto Marlies defeat Rochester Americans in rematch

Boyd added to the lead five minutes later off a one-timer, after Benoit-Olivier Groulx forced a turnover. It was an excellent start to Boyd’s tenure with the Marlies, spending the majority of the 2024-25 campaign with the Iowa Wild, where he recorded 22 goals and 53 points in 63 games.

“I thought given the fact that I got into the lineup today, I thought playing with (David) Kampf and Groulx, I thought we played really well,” Boyd said post-game. “We’re on the same page a lot, I think we have some early chemistry going. That certainly helped. The second goal I had, it was a great play by Groulx, he does all the work down below and just finds me hanging out. I was lucky enough to put that one home. All things considered, first win of the year for the team and looking to improve.”

Shaw and Ryan Tverberg also scored for the Marlies. Dennis Hildeby was named the first star of the game after making 32 saves. Hildeby could be recalled by the Maple Leafs at any time and this was a strong start to the campaign for the 24-year-old.

“It felt good. Other than the first period, I thought we played a very solid game. Guys made it easy as possible for me and blocked a lot of shots, too,” Hildeby said post-game.

There will be an extended break, as the Marlies resume their schedule on October 18 against the Belleville Senators, before hosting the Utica Comets on October 19.
