Trevor Zegras Avoids 'Initially Feared' Injury in Ducks' Update

The Anaheim Ducks announced on Thursday that forward Trevor Zegras underwent successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Zegras sustained the injury during a Dec. 4 game against the Vegas Golden Knights, leaving the ice abruptly after a non-contact incident.

The Ducks revealed a six-week recovery timeline, marking a significant relief compared to initial fears as reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman's insight.

“Anaheim's Trevor Zegras had surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He's out six weeks," Friedman reported on X. "It's actually much, much better than was initially feared. So good news for Zegras and the Ducks, thankfully.”

Early concerns had pointed to a potential ligament tear, which could have ended Zegras’ season prematurely after appearing in just 24 games.

Zegras had started to find his form before the injury, posting seven points in his previous eight games, including two multi-point outings, albeit his production was still subpar posting a career-low 1.5 points per 60 minutes.

The 23-year-old has faced his share of setbacks and has a long injury history, this being his third major injury in two seasons. Last year, Zegras missed a total of 51 games due to a lower-body injury and a broken ankle.

The timeline shared by the Ducks points toward a return happening in February, but with the league going on hiatus mid-February for the 4 Nations Face-Off, it's fair to think the franchise might opt to keep Zegras sidelined until after that tournament.

Zegras is under contract through the 2026 season carrying a cap hit of $5.75 million part of a full three-year, $17.25 million deal. He was the no. 9 overall pick of the Ducks in the 2019 draft and he's scored 164 points in 235 regular-season games throughout his career.
