Team USA announced Friday that Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman and defenseman Charlie McAvoy have been named to Team USA’s roster for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan next month.
The 27-year-old Swayman has appeared in 218 career NHL games, all with Boston, posting an overall record of 116-72-24 with a 2.61 goals against average and a .910 save percentage. After a tumultuous season in 2024-25, the former UMaine netminder has posted a 15-10-2 record this season with 2.84 goals against average and .903 save percentage. In 20 postseason games with Boston, Swayman has registered a 2.38 goals against and .922 save percentage.
Swayman ranks sixth in franchise history in save percentage overall. The Alaska Anchorage native played in the World Championships last season and posted a 1.69 with a .921 as the United States went undefeated in the tournament.
The 28-year-old McAvoy has returned to the Boston lineup recently after missing nearly a month after sustaining a broken jaw in a November 15 game in Montreal. Since the Long Beach, New York native’s return, McAvoy has tallied one goal and five assists in ten games. McAvoy has registered a goal and 19 assists in 29 games with a minus-5 rating while logging 24 minutes of ice time per game.
In his 533-game career, all with Boston, McAvoy has collected 61 goals and 259 assists with a plus-139 rating. In 91 postseason games, the 6-foot-1, 211-pound blueliner has 48 points. McAvoy played two games for the United States in the Four Nations Tournament last February and is a product of the United States National Development Program. In the World Championships in 2018, McAvoy had a brilliant tournament with three goals and six assists in six games.
Swayman was a fourth-round draft pick, 211th overall, by Boston in 2017 and was seventh in Vezina Trophy voting two seasons ago. McAvoy was chosen in 2016 by the Bruins with the 14th overall pick and has finished in the top ten in Norris Trophy voting three times.
