The J.T. Miller vs. Elias Pettersson feud was a huge story in Vancouver a year ago, but according to Tyler Myers, things weren't as bad as the media stated.
Last season, the Vancouver Canucks simply fell apart, with the team failing to make the post-season despite heading into the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs as potential favourites in the Western Conference.
However, the drama in the locker room between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson was noted as one of the reasons that this team struggled, with many in the media around Vancouver making it out to be a major feud.
Now, veteran defenseman Tyler Myers has opened up on what it was like behind the scenes, and according to Myers, things weren't nearly as bad as the media had made it out to be.
It got pretty crazy, just publicly last year. Way, way more than what it was. I'm not going to sit here and say that there wasn't tension. But I've been on a team where players are in a full-on fist fight after a game, who I know are close friends. There's going to be tension anywhere you go.Millsy and I got close. It was a lot more than it needed to be, but it wasn't anything crazy. We were figuring things out, just like every other team does with different situations. But our locker room is great. I like coming to the rink every day, all the guys are close and we weren't too worried about it.
In Myers latest interview, he notes that there was definitely tension, but the way the media was exaggerating it, you would have thought there was much, much more going on.
Ultimately, the front office made the call they believe that they needed to make in trading Miller, and while it wasn't as bad as many believed, the team can now go into the 2025/26 season with no drama as they look to get back into post-season contention.
