The New York Rangers have already made one shock move this off-season, and now, a different type of move from the organization has stunned their fans.
The 2024/25 campaign was meant to be a huge success in the Big Apple, but after a disastrous season, the New York Rangers missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs entirely in a shocking downfall.
As a result, the team quickly fired Head Coach Peter Laviolette, with many wondering how many other moves could come this summer, with no one's future considered safe.
That's no longer the case, as the front office have officially handed General Manager Chris Drury a multi-year extension, expected to keep him in New York for plenty of time to come.
This is a move that should shock Rangers fans, as the lack of development and the poor trades that Drury has made has left the future of this organization up in the air, with many worried the team could only get worse under Drury.
One person that isn't worried however is owner James Dolan, who had nothing but good things to say during the Rangers press release of the very unexpected contract extension.
I am pleased that Chris will continue to lead the Rangers hockey operations in his role as President and General Manager.Over his tenure, Chris has shown passion for the Rangers, relentless work ethic and a tireless pursuit of excellence. While we are all disappointed in what transpired this past season, I am confident in his ability to guide this organization to success.
That's a vote of confidence that most Rangers fans certainly don't have in Drury, but with the GM locked in for a few more years, he'll look to execute his plan and get this team back to Stanley Cup contention moving forward.
