The Utah Mammoth began the season with a resounding 6-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks to begin the season.
Utah then proceeded last night to slowly but surely dismantle the Columbus Blue Jackets, winning 4-1.
The 2-0-0 Mammoth are about to face another tough task with the New York Rangers tonight, but theese last two games have been nothing but pure domination thanks to two stats.
In game one, Utah went two for three on the power play, which was nice to see. Even better though was last night when Utah went three for four on the PP, with goals from Dylan Guenther, Nick Schmaltz, and Mikhail Sergachev.
Thus far Guenther has compiled already three goals and two assists, with much of that produciton coming on the power play.
Utah's dangerous lines with Guenther, Logan Cooley, Nick Schmaltz, Clayton Keller, and others have made the PP unit a unit to be reckoned with.
As for the other stat, Utah has looked great there too. Utah outshot the Blackhawks 32 to 15, keeping their offense down all night and applying heavy pressure in the offensive zone.
Utah only continued it's dominance again the Blue Jackets, outshooting them 31 to 18. So far, Sebastian Cossa and Karel Vejmelka have stopped 45 of 46 shots, with Vejmelka earning a 15-save shutout on Thursday and Cossa saving 17 of 18 shots faced on Saturday.
Both goalies look great, but they haven't faced much adversity yet. Utah has kept opponents from creating much offense.
This has allowed Utah to keep opponents from scoring and, of course, put more pressure on opposing goalies. Tonight, the Mammoth once again look to win.
Against the Rangers, Utah will have a strong chance of winning if they can maintain it's dominant start.
