Per a new report, the Utah Mammoth are shopping the 4th overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NHL Entry Draft to try and land a young, top-6 forward.
The Utah Mammoth, who were recently rebranded after they were known as the Utah Hockey Club for their 1st year playing in Salt Lake City following their relocation from Arizona, landed the 4th overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
There remains a strong possibility that they won't use the pick and will instead try to shop the selection to try and bring in a top-6 forward.
The report comes from analyst David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period:
The Utah Mammoth are believed to be open to moving the fourth-overall pick. Some believe Utah GM Bill Armstrong will consider trading the pick for a young top-six, NHL-proven forward.
There are a handful of top-6 forwards who have been rumoured to be on the move from their current respective teams.
Among them are Jason Robertson of the Dallas Stars, who were just eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers for the 2nd year in a row. Robertson was one of the few Stars players who supplied routine offense in the series, scoring 4 goals in the final 3 games of the WCF.
Other options that the Mammoth could try looking at include Tage Thompson of the Buffalo Sabres and Matt Barzal of the New York Islanders; both the Sabres and Islanders could potentially be enticed to with the prospect of the 4th overall pick.
The Islanders already have the top pick in this year's Draft, and new GM Mathieu Darche could consider picking again almost immediately afterward.
Either way, it's clear that the Mammoth intend to build on their 1st year in Salt Lake City by trying to bring playoff hockey to the state of Utah next spring.
