
The Vancouver Canucks made a deal to send Nils Hoglander to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Colorado’s third-round draft pick in 2029. Moments after that trade was made, the Canucks then acquired forward Brendan Gallagher from the Montreal Canadiens. A move that’s been speculated about after Gallagher made it known he wanted to play for the Canucks. The Canucks are not giving up anything to the Canadiens, and Montreal is retaining 50% of his salary. Gallagher, this season in 77 games, had 23 points on seven goals and 16 assists. He was even in plus/minus with two power-play goals. In three playoff games, he scored a goal and was a plus-one.

Gallagher has spent all 14 years of his NHL career with the Canadiens, who drafted him 147th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. In 911 games, he had 487 points on 246 goals and 241 assists. He was a +26 with 51 power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, and 27 game-winning goals. He finished second in the Calder Memorial Trophy voting in 2012-13, as Jonathan Huberdeau won the award. In 79 playoff games, he had 34 points on 14 goals and 20 assists. He was a -12 with five power-play goals and three game-winning goals. Before joining Montreal, Gallagher spent four seasons with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.
