The Golden Knights are going to be shorthanded as they attempt to keep their season alive when they take on the Oilers in Game 6 at T-Mobile Arena.
For the 1st time this postseason, the Vegas Golden Knights are facing a potential elimination. They've lost 3 of 4 games to the Edmonton Oilers, and are only one loss away from an early summer.
The news as they go into tonight's crucial Game 5 isn't good. By all indications, they're expected to be shorthanded and have to play without captain Mark Stone, who was hurt earlier in the series in Game 3 but managed to play in Game 4.
Additionally, the injured Brandon Saad isn't expected back even if Vegas is able to extend the series.
Stone was hurt in Game 3 after colliding with the skate of Edmonton's Corey Perry; he played several more shifts before eventually departing.
He was labeled as a game-time decision for Game 4, which he and his teammates lost 3-0 in Edmonton.
He has 8 points (4G, 4A) in 10 playoff games so far this spring.
Regardless of who is in the lineup, Vegas needs more out of the players on the ice per coach Bruce Cassidy.
You get down 3-1 here, there are no magic potions to sprinkle around the room and say, we are too far along as a team. A lot of guys in that room have won, they understand what is at stake.
We have to play harder, we have to play better for longer. That's a little bit of will right now. Do they want to do it to play on? We'll find out tomorrow.
If Vegas manages to win, Game 6 will be back in Edmonton on Friday.
