The Vegas Golden Knights, who have already acquired Mitch Marner from the Maple Leafs, are now looking to trade defenseman Ben Hutton, per a report from David Pagnotta.
In typical Golden Knights fashion, Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon secured arguably the biggest name that was on the open market this summer, acquiring Mitch Marner in a sign-and-trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs and then locking him up to an 8-year extension with an AAV (average annual value) of $12 million.
His $12 million AAV is a $1.9 million raise over the $10.1 million AAV that he was making during his most recent contract in Toronto, and also signals that Vegas is serious about getting back into the conversation for the Stanley Cup.
And while more moves could soon be on the way for Vegas, they could be on the verge of trading a defenseman that would free up additional salary cap space.
Per The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Golden Knights are looking to move on from defenseman Ben Hutton.
Vegas is trying to find a new home for defenceman Ben Hutton, who is in the final year of his contract.
The Golden Knights do need to make additional moves to become compliant under the salary cap, as they are nearly $7 million over the cap limit, per Puck Pedia.
Hutton, who was taken 147th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks, has spent the last 4 years with the Golden Knights. He has a year left on his contract with an AAV of $975,000.
He's appeared in 520 career NHL games, and has 124 points (24G, 100A).
