In 17 games last season for the Colorado Eagles, he had 12 points on four goals and eight assists. He was a minus-two with two power-play goals and a game-winning goal. In 17 Calder Cup Playoff games, he had a goal and an assist; he was a minus-two.

MacDonald joined the NHL after spending four seasons at Cornell University, where in 104 games he had 21 points on four goals and 17 assists; he was a plus-one. He has appeared in 135 NHL games with three different teams: the Florida Panthers, San Jose Sharks, and Colorado Avalanche. He’s recorded 27 points in ten goals and 17 assists. He has a -14 with three power-play goals.
MacDonald has also appeared in 357 AHL games, recording 260 points on 103 goals and 157 assists. He’s a plus-five with 48 power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, and 15 game-winning goals. In 35 career Calder Cup Playoff games, he has 11 points on two goals and nine assists; he is a minus-seven. MacDonald has also appeared in 110 ECHL games, recording 66 points on 25 goals and 41 assists. He was a +21 with six power-play goals, four shorthanded goals, and three game-winning goals.
