Vegas Golden Knights forward Brett Howden scored twice in the 4-3 victory against the Winnipeg Jets to set a new career in goals with 10.
But he’s not satisfied with simply getting that mark. He wants to surpass it by a lot more.
“It’s something I’ve been trying to accomplish: just trying to be better each year, and I’ve yet to do it, so it’s nice to accomplish that,” Howden said. “Just looking to keep going.”
Howden’s first goal was a prime example of how versatile Howden is: he stole the puck in his own zone, won a foot race against Winnipeg defenseman Logan Stanley, before scoring underneath Eric Comrie’ right pad on a backhand to forehand move.
His second goal came from his hockey IQ, driving hard to the net and finding the soft spot for William Karlsson to deliver a picture-perfect backdoor backhand pass to send the Golden Knights’ fans home happy.
“I had the easy job of just trying to find the open ice. Just trying to find a quiet area,” Howden said. “[Alexander Holtz] did a good job of going through to the net. He took two or three guys with him, so it kind of left me open, and then ‘Karly’s’ the one that makes the play. So it was pretty easy for me to just put it into an empty net. It was a really good play by them.”
