On Thursday, Texas special assistant to the head coach Chris Gilbert arrived at Willis (Tex.) High School in style to see five-star Texas commit Jermaine Bishop.

The Longhorns staffer made the 156 mile trip east to check in on the 5-foot-11, 155 pound athlete via helicopter. Bishop and his teammates take on Cleveland (Tex.) Friday and will look to improve to 4-1. Gilbert showed up during Willis' practice in preparation to see how Bishop was doing.

Last week, the five-star recruit ran for 301 yards and four touchdowns. He also added a passing touchdown, a receiving touchdown, and made five tackles and had a pass breakup on defense. Hell, he even punted the ball 50 yards. Truly can do it all.

Jermaine Bishop is listed as a cornerback but will most likely arrive in Austin as an athlete.

He is the No. 25th overall prospect in the nation and Texas' 3rd-ranked prospect in the 2026 class. His head coach, Trent Miller, raved about Bishop as a player and a young man in a recent interview with ABC13 Houston's Joe Gleason.

"Jermaine's a special, special talent man. But like you said, hats off to our defense. When we had a hard time getting the momentum and the ball rolling in the first quarter our defense really stepped up for us and they never really wavered down the stretch.

"And with Jermaine, I mean, I think he did everything tonight except have a receiving touchdown which is what he does best. Throwing one, ran multiple, fake punt on 4th-and-35 for a first down, the kid is just, I mean he's a machine man we are so thankful that he wears the purple and white."

The Willis head coach raves about Jermaine Bishop's leadership and IQ.

"I'll tell you this man, for all the special things that he does on Friday nights that everybody gets to see, the human being that he is and the leader that he is in that locker room and in this community is something that I've never seen before. Him and DJ (Lagway) are like twins when it comes to that leadership thing.

"The kid watches more video than probably half my coaches on the coaching staff. He's the epitome of what a motivator is, he always is looking especially with the young kids to build them up when people are breaking them down. Just an unbelievable human being and a special, special young man."
