According to an insider, before Martin Necas signed a two year extension either the Carolina Hurricanes, he was nearly acquired by a Western Conference team.
Earlier this off-season, Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas surprised many people by re-signing in Carolina on a two year extension. However, he was nearly dealt to another team before he was able to win on the dotted line
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Necas was almost dealt to the St Louis Blues at one point this summer.
According to reports, the Blues were very, interested in acquiring Necas, but the deal never ended up materializing. Of course as a result Necas re-signed with the Hurricanes.
Necas, 25, played in 77 games for the Hurricanes last season, collecting a total of 53 points, including 24 goals and adding 29 assists.
While the opportunity and pursuit of Necas made sense for the Blues at the time, especially given their struggles offensively and their need for depth scoring.
We'll never know how this would've turned out, but with Necas staying with the Hurricanes organization, we're finding out that there were definitely no shortage of suitors for his services.
