Where will the Flames’ 2025 draft choices be playing in 2025-26?

The Calgary Flames had a productive weekend, selecting eight players at the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday and Saturday.

With these new faces added to the organization, where can fans watch the eight picks during the 2025-26 season? As of Monday morning, here’s where they’re all slated to play based on the available information.

Playing in college

Cullen Potter (32nd overall) spent last season as a freshman at Arizona State University, and he’s expected to return for his sophomore season.

Meanwhile, Cole Reschny (18th overall) and Aiden Lane (176th overall) will be headed to college for their freshman seasons. After spending 2024-25 with the WHL’s Victoria Royals, Reschny is headed to the University of North Dakota. Meanwhile, after splitting last season between St. Andrews College prep school and the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads, Lane will be headed to Harvard University.

Other Flames prospects playing in college in 2025-26 include Luke Misa (Penn State), Henry Mews (Michigan), Cade Littler (North Dakota), Eric Jamieson (Denver), Jaden Lipinski (Maine) and Trevor Hoskin (Merrimack).

Playing in junior

A few new Flames drafted out of junior seem destined for a return there for 2025-26.

Theo Stockselius (54th overall) and Jakob Leander (208th overall) look to be returning to Djurgardens IF and HV71, respectively. Same goes for Ethan Wyttenbach (144th overall), who’s destined for Quinnipiac University for 2026-27 but will likely spend 2025-26 back with Sioux Falls of the USHL.

Meanwhile, Mace’o Phillips (80th overall) will be at either Portland of the WHL (where he’s a listed player) or Green Bay of the USHL (who drafted him). He spent last season with the U.S. National Development Program’s Under-18 squad and he’s slated to head to the University of Minnesota in 2026-27.

Finally, Russian pick Yan Matveiko (211th overall) is headed back to CSKA Moskva’s system, where he’ll probably start out with the under-20 Krasnaya Armiya Moskva, the team he spent the past two seasons with.

Other prospects currently expected to play in junior in 2025-26 include Hunter Laing (Saskatoon), Axel Hurtig (Calgary), Yegor Yegorov (MHK Dynamo Moskva) and Kirill Zarubin (AKM Tula).
