Who’ll reach 100 points first in the NHL in 2023-24?
Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

Usually Connor McDavid is the first player to hit the 100-point mark each season, but with his slow start, he’s only just starting to enter the scoring race again, and even then, he’s still 11 points off of leading scorer Nikita Kucherov. If anyone can do it, it’s McDavid, but it certainly opens up that title to be given to someone like Kucherov or even Nathan MacKinnon, who is five points behind Kucherov with 47.

Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli make their picks on who they think will be the first 100 point scorer this season on Daily Faceoff Live.

Tyler Yaremchuk: I’m going to say Nikita Kucherov will not be the first player to 100 points to this year, I think either Nathan MacKinnon or Connor McDavid get there before Kucherov. Fair or foul?

Frank Seravalli: What’s your thought process in getting to that point though?

Tyler Yaremchuk: I think the Tampa Bay Lightning have looked painfully average so far this season. I know Kucherov has been doing a lot of the heavy lifting, but their power play has continued to get colder as the year has gone on. I think that will slow his production.

I think McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers power play will stay hot, and I just love this role that MacKinnon has been on right now. I’m just obsessed with watching this guy. I think MacKinnon is fully capable of keeping his heater going as well.

Frank Seravalli: Yeah, I’ll say fair. I could see MacKinnon totally being the first player to get to 100 points. He’s kind of neck-and-neck with Kucherov, not really far back, and you look at just the incredible consistency that he’s played with in his career. In his last 440 games, he has 600 points. It’s a pretty incredible total that he’s been able to work himself up to.

The Avs are a pretty good team as well, so I don’t see them going anywhere so I’ll say fair.
