GM Bill Guerin and the Wild have made their third trade in the past three days. They sent defenseman Declan Chisholm and the 180th pick in Saturday's draft to the Washington Capitals for defenseman Chase Priskie and the 123rd pick.
Chisholm, 25, played in 66 games for the Wild last season, scoring 12 points (two goals and 10 assists) and averaging roughly 17 minutes on ice per night. He was a minus-5. Originally a fifth-round pick by Winnipeg in 2018, he was claimed off waivers by the Wild in January 2024 and played in 29 games for Minnesota that season. Chisholm was a pending restricted free agent this offseason.
Priskie is an unrestricted free agent, so the Wild will have to decide if they're going to sign him. The Athletic's Michael Russo thinks "it wouldn't be shocking" if they elect not to do so. Priskie, 29, has appeared in four career NHL games, all with the Panthers in the 2021-22 season. The former Quinnipiac standout has four career AHL seasons with over 30 points.
The real return for the Wild in sending Chisholm to Washington is moving up 57 spots on the draft board. In sending a fifth-round pick to the Capitals for a fourth-rounder, they now have three selections in the fourth round. They previously acquired one on Thursday when they traded Frederick Gaudreau to Seattle.
The Wild's other trade on Thursday sent Brendan Gaunce to Columbus for 23-year-old forward Cameron Butler.
