Eriksson Ek, 27, was injured during overtime of Tuesday night's win over the Vancouver Canucks after being checked into the boards. It's not Eriksson Ek's first injury this season, though he's played in 22 of the Wild's 25 games. Eriksson Ek is the Wild's best center, and his absence will be a big blow to a team with the most points in the NHL.
In 22 games, Eriksson Ek has 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists) — tied for sixth on the team — and his plus-minus of plus-10 is fourth-best on the Wild. He's also averaging 19:05 minutes of ice time per game, which is the seventh most on the Minnesota roster.
Injuries are stacking up for the Wild. On Wednesday, the same day Eriksson Ek was listed as week-to-week, so were defenseman Jonas Brodin (upper body) and forwards Jakub Lauko (lower body) and Mats Zuccarello (lower body). Eriksson Ek landing on injured reserve means he will be out for a minimum of seven days.
Still, the Wild are tied for an NHL best with 38 points and they'll have a chance to add to that total when they visit the Anaheim Ducks Friday night for a 9 p.m. puck drop.
