The Minnesota Wild announced today that defenseman Carson Lambos has been recalled from the club’s AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild.

This move returns Lambos to the Wild’s active roster one week after he was reassigned back to the AHL. Lambos was returned to Iowa after captain Jared Spurgeon was activated off of injured reserve. Spurgeon had missed four games with an injury and was on IR. Because the Wild had a full 23-man active roster at the time, Lambos’ reassignment was necessary to clear the space to activate Spurgeon.

Now, Spurgeon is once again sidelined, this time on a week-to-week basis per Michael Russo of The Athletic. Just as Spurgeon’s activation cost Lambos his spot on the Wild’s NHL roster, Spurgeon’s new injury has given Lambos an NHL roster spot once again.

A 23-year-old left-shot blueliner, Lambos has slowly, steadily developed into an NHL option for the Wild. Lambos was originally selected in the first round, No. 26 overall, at the 2021 draft, and was projected to be a potential NHL top-four blueliner.

Scouts have since adjusted his projection down a slot or two. In 2022, Scott Wheeler of The Athletic ranked Lambos the No. 4 prospect in the Wild’s system, calling him a defenseman with “projectable second-pairing upside.” Three years later, in 2025, Wheeler dropped Lambos to the No. 13 slot in Minnesota’s system, writing that Lambos “doesn’t profile as a prospect like he did in his early days in the WHL anymore,” though he still has “the chance to play some games” in the NHL.

Lambos made his NHL debut in December 2025, skating 10:16 time on ice in a 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Although he hasn’t appeared in the NHL since then, he’s played a steady shutdown role for AHL Iowa. He’ll get the chance to make his 2026-27 debut as a result of today’s call-up.

If he does dress for any games, it’ll almost certainly be as Minnesota’s third-pairing left-shot defenseman, partnered with veteran Zach Bogosian. That spot is currently occupied by 28-year-old depth defenseman Matt Kiersted, who Lambos should be able to push for games.
