The Minnesota Wild have added familiar depth at forward after losing defenseman Daemon Hunt on waivers. According to a team announcement, the Wild recalled forward Mason Shaw from the AHL’s Iowa Wild.

Shaw, 27, is in his second stint with the Wild. Minnesota selected him with the 97th overall pick (fourth round) in the 2017 NHL Draft. He played in the WHL for the Medicine Hat Tigers and made his professional debut in the 2017-18 season.

Throughout his first stint with the Wild, Shaw primarily played in the AHL. Still, in the 2022-23 season, Shaw skated in 59 NHL contests, scoring seven goals and 17 points with a -1 rating.

Unfortunately, injuries have followed Shaw throughout his career. Before debuting in the NHL, Shaw tore his ACL three times. Towards the end of his first full season with Minnesota, Shaw tore his ACL for a fourth time, putting his career in jeopardy. He dropped off the Wild’s depth chart and later joined the AHL’s Manitoba Moose for two seasons.

Although he never returned to the NHL, Shaw’s two years in Manitoba went well. He finished his tenure having scored 32 goals and 81 points in 143 games with a -14 rating. Since returning to the Wild this past summer, Shaw has scored a team-leading three goals and nine points in nine games for Iowa. If he returns to the lineup throughout his call-up, Shaw will play his first NHL contest since April 15, 2024.
