Over and over again on Saturday night, a Los Angeles Kings goal was followed by an answer from the Minnesota Wild. The visitors faced four one-goal deficits at Crypto.com Arena and tied the score each time, but never managed to take a lead. And in the fourth round of the shootout, needing one more answer, the Wild finally came up short in a 5-4 (SO) loss.
Minnesota's fourth equalizer came courtesy of Matt Boldy's 26th goal, which puts him second in the NHL, with just under three minutes to play. A Brock Faber shot deflected off of Boldy, who had put himself in a good position near the net.

In overtime, Faber nearly scored the game-winner on a backdoor tap-in, but Darcy Kuemper made the save. And 20 seconds later, Faber was called for a high-sticking penalty against Kevin Fiala — one the Wild bench was not pleased with. That put Minnesota on the penalty kill for the remainder of overtime, so John Hynes' team did well just to make it to a shootout.
The Wild's trend of responses continued in the second round of the shootout, when Boldy answered an Adrian Kempe goal with a gorgeous deke and backhand finish. Kirill Kaprizov had a chance to win it in round three, but his backhand try was denied. And after Brandt Clarke scored to open the fourth round, Vladimir Tarasenko couldn't convert.
Playing on the second night of a back-to-back after beating the Ducks on Friday, the Wild couldn't quite seem to take control of this game. The Kings out-shot them 38 to 28 and got four past Jesper Wallstedt, who did manage 34 saves.
Kempe opened the scoring in the first period, but it took just over two minutes for the Wild to respond with Jake Middleton's first goal of the season, set up by Mats Zuccarello. Late in the second period, a Corey Perry power-play goal gave the Kings the lead for less than 90 seconds before Joel Eriksson Ek took a stretch pass from Quinn Hughes and buried a PPG of his own.

Five minutes into the third, the Kings scored a strange goal when Quinton Byfield's shot was deflected off the end boards and behind Wallstedt, who couldn't find the puck. As it sat in the crease and players battled for it, the puck squirted into the net. Once again, though, it took less than three minutes for the Wild to answer. Faber's ninth goal of the year finished off a pretty passing play from Danila Yurov and Kaprizov.
The Kings then took their fourth one-goal lead with eight minutes left behind the first goal of the season for Samuel Helenius, but Boldy's response came five minutes later.
The Wild (25-10-8) did manage to pick up a point, and they'll look to get two points in a rematch against the Kings (17-14-9) on Monday night in LA. It's a 9:30 p.m. CT game and the penultimate contest in Minnesota's seven-game road trip.
