Minnesota Wild center Freddy Gaudreau has been traded to the Seattle Kraken for draft compensation, the Wild confirmed Thursday.
Gaudreau tallied 37 points (18 goals and 19 assists) for Minnesota this past season. Originally signing with the Wild as a free agent in 2021, Gaudreau totaled 56 goals and 78 assists in four seasons with Minnesota.
By trading Gaudreau, the Wild get off the rest of his contract, which was set to pay him $2.1 million in each of the next three seasons. Minnesota has roughly $17.7 million in cap space after the move.
The Wild received a fourth-round pick (No. 102 overall) in this weekend's NHL Draft.
Minnesota could be busy this offseason, as they have continued to shop Marco Rossi while looking to add to a roster that aims to get past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
