Will the Hurricanes finally break their Eastern Conference curse?

So far this postseason, the Hurricanes have shown no signs of struggle. They swept the Ottawa Senators in round 1 and and the Philadelphia Flyers in round 2. Goalie Frederik Andersen has been the star of the show, posting a .927 save percentage and two shutouts. He also has a 1.55 GAA, his second lowest ever in a single postseason.

As for the offense, unlikely heroes have stepped up. Taylor Hall, Jackson Blake, and Logan Stankoven are in the top three for points for the Hurricanes this postseason. Star forwards Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis have been on the quieter side, but it has been no issue so far. Offseason addition Nikolaj Ehlers has also stepped up, scoring two goals including the OT winner in Game 2 to even the series.

However, the Hurricanes ECF recent history is definitely an eye sore. This is now there fifth appearance since 2008-09, and the previous four have gone as followed: swept, swept, swept, lost in five. In retrospect, three out of the four times the Hurricanes have lost, the winning team has gone on to win the Stanley Cup (Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, Florida Panthers in 2023 and 2025).

It looked like history would repeat itself once again. In Game 1, the Canadiens offense was all over Andersen, winning 6-2 including four first period goals. That’s when Ehlers scored the game-winner in OT in Game 2, to even the series and give the Hurricanes some breathing room.

Game 3 will for sure be the biggest test of the Hurricanes postseason run. Heading up to Montreal to play in the Bell Centre is no easy task, especially in the playoffs. The good news for Carolina at least is that this postseason, the Canadiens are 2-4 at home. The Hurricanes are also 4-0 this postseason on the road. Game 3 will be a uphill battle for the Hurricanes, it’s just a matter of are they ready for it
