Winnipeg Jets Acquire Luke Schenn from Pittsburgh Penguins

The Winnipeg Jets have traded for some help on the back end, acquiring Luke Schenn from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick, and a 2027 fourth-round pick. Schenn, who was recently dealt to the Penguins from the Nashville Predators, is on the move once again.

Schenn, 35, is a veteran who has split time between eight teams in his career, playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Nashville Predators. He was a member of the Penguins for just a few days, but never suited up in Pittsburgh.

Schenn has played 1057 games in his NHL career and won two Stanley Cups while playing for the Lightning. Never an offensive threat, Schenn has recorded 33 goals and 203 points. In 47 playoff games, he has three goals and seven points.

Over the past several years, Schenn has become more of a role-playing, depth player who has struggled at times in his sheltered minutes. Now, appearing to be a target to play on the Jets’ third pairing, will likely be paired with Logan Stanley who has also had his fair share of struggles.

Schenn has one more year on his deal after this one, making $2.75 million annually. This was the Jets’ first move of the day, and that salary will fit easily in the deadline cap space they have, opening the day with over $12 million in space. The Jets sit atop the Central Division with 90 points and seem to be tinkering to solidify their position.
