Fleury has played for the Jets, Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken and Tampa Bay Lightning over his eight-year NHL career. The 28-year-old totaled seven assists in 39 games last season for Winnipeg. He logged an average ice time of 15 minutes and 56 seconds a game. Fleury had a Corsi for of 43.9 and a relative Corsi of -7.2.
The Carlyle, Saskatchewan native has 10 goals and 34 assists for 44 points in 307 career games. Carolina originally drafted him in the first round, seventh overall of the 2014 NHL Draft. Haydn Fleury is also the older brother of Cale Fleury.
The elder Fleury recorded a pair of assists in eight Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Jets. He has a total of two goals and two assists in 26 post-season games.
Fleury has also represented his native Canada at the international level. He was part of the Team Canada squad that placed sixth at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships.
Fleury is a solid depth defenceman for the Jets. He may not fill up the scoresheet, but he’s still a useful player for Winnipeg.
This is also a strong deal because it’s a low-cost one that leaves the Jets plenty of flexibility as July 1 draws closer. Winnipeg is hoping to take the next step after winning the President’s Trophy in 2024-25.
Fleury has seemingly found a place after bouncing around for a good portion of his career. His defensive play makes a good bottom-pair blueliner that will help eat up some minutes on the back end for Winnipeg.
