The Winnipeg Jets are saying goodbye to one of their defencemen, as the Vegas Golden Knights have locked him up to a one-year deal in free agency.
Former Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dylan Coghlan is going back to where it all started for him.
The defenceman has signed a one-year, league minimum $775,000 deal with the Vegas Golden Knights, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman first reported on Tuesday.
Coghlan, age 28, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Golden Knights back in 2017, and made his NHL debut with Vegas a few years later in 2020-21.
He was dealt to Carolina as part of the Max Pacioretty contract dump by the Golden Knights.
Coghlan split last year between the Winnipeg Jets, where he played in six NHL games, and their AHL Manitoba Moose affiliate, where he suited up in 36 games.
He has scored six goals and added 16 assists in 112 career NHL games with Vegas, the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Jets.
Having spent two campaigns with Vegas earlier in his career, Coghlan could likely compete for a third-pairing role with the club in 2025-26, but he'll probably have to contend with Kaeden Korczak for playing time, as Vegas' roster is loaded.
