Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll is the projected starter for Game 3 against the Florida Panthers. Woll started Game 2 in a 4-3 victory, making 25 saves in the winning effort. Anthony Stolarz did not travel to Florida, and Woll is expected to start every game for the Maple Leafs, until his teammate is cleared to return from injury.
Matt Murray and Dennis Hildeby also participated at the Leafs’ morning skate on Friday. Murray served as Woll’s backup in Game 2.
There doesn’t appear to be any changes to the Maple Leafs’ lineup for Game 3, with Craig Berube sticking to his winning combinations.
William Nylander has been the best skater in this series, and Panthers defenceman Gustav Forsling spoke about the challenges of containing the Leafs’ star winger.
“He’s been great, he’s obviously super skilled, good with the puck,” Forsling said Friday. “We want to shut him down as much as possible, and take time and space away from him.”
Panthers head coach Paul Maurice hinted at some changes to his lineup ahead of Game 3.
“We’ve got some guys we have to look at with health. We’ll [look at changes] at game-time,” Maurice said.
At the time of this filing, it’s unclear who could be coming out of the lineup for the Panthers due to injury.
“It’s not the most ideal thing to be down 2-0, but I think the mood is good,” Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov said Friday. “We’re happy to be back home. We’re happy to play in front of our fans. I’m really excited for tonight’s challenge.”
Toronto is in uncharted territory and will be looking to take a commanding 3-0 series lead once the puck drops on Friday.
