Zach Hyman Holds Nearly Unbelievable Distinction This Season

It’s hard to believe because, by comparison, he’s had a relatively quiet season, but Zach Hyman is doing something incredibly impressive in 2025-26: scoring goals. Hyman has the 5th highest goals per game this season behind only Nathan MacKinnon, Connor McDavid, Nikita Kucherov, and Cole Caufield.

When you think about how “insane” that is, says ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski , it goes to show just how impactful the Edmonton Oilers forward is.

Hyman took a minute to get going this season. The veteran winger suffered a serious wrist dislocation and ligament damage in Game 4 of the 2025 Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars. After undergoing surgery in the off-season and a careful rehab process, Hyman finally suited up on December 1, 2025.

Since returning, the 33-year-old has found his groove and been a major boost to the Oilers. He’s been productive on the top line, picking up right where he left off with McDavid. In fact, he’s been better this season than last, scoring more on a clip that is akin to his 54-goal season from 2023-24.

And, while he’s known for his power play points and netfront acumen, that’s not the only way he’s getting goals. Against the Vegas Golden Knights, Hyman stole the puck in the Vegas zone right off a player, then turned around and scored a beauty for his 30th of the season.

Did Hyman Take the Team Canada Snubs Personally?

Interestingly, Hyman seems to have found another gear since the two international play snubs, first at the 4 Nations and most recently with Team Canada at the Olympics. There were reasons he wasn’t on either team, but there were also arguments that he could have been selected and excelled. Since being overlooked, he’s gone on a tear offensively.

He’s not the kind of player that would ever admit that’s the driving force behind his recent success, but he’s driven and proud, and one could argue it might have lit a bit of a fire under him.
