Team Canada and Team USA once again enter the Olympics as clear favorites in international hockey. No matter the generation or venue, these two nations are always expected to be deep in the medal race, and the 2026 Winter Olympics are no different.
What truly sets Canada and the United States apart, though, is the rivalry they share. It is one of the fiercest rivalries in global hockey. That intensity exists across both men’s and women’s hockey, where meetings between the two rarely feel like just another game.
At this year’s Olympics, that familiar storyline returns. The men’s teams are expected to meet later in the knockout rounds if both sides advance as projected. On the women’s side, fans will not have to wait long, as Team Canada and Team USA are set to face each other on Tuesday in one of the marquee matchups of the tournament.
Ahead of the game, let’s take a look at both teams’ head-to-head record in men’s and women’s hockey events.
The men’s Olympic hockey rivalry between Team Canada and Team USA dates back to the early days of the Winter Games. Over the years, Canada has largely had the upper hand, especially in gold medals. Canada’s all-time record against the U.S. in “best-on-best” hockey competition is 13-4-1. When it comes to hockey, Canada has a 13-2-2 record against its archrivals.
