The United States is always a powerhouse in international sporting events, and the 2026 Winter Olympics reminded the world that Team USA always produces some of the world's best athletes.
Their 33-medal haul in Milan is the second-highest out of the whole tournament, with only Norway being the more prolific nation in winter sports. However, the narratives surrounding some of USA's biggest medals grab the attention.
Alysa Liu's comeback story from retirement to Olympic gold is some of the most dazzling pieces of storytelling available. The men's hockey team breaking a 46-year curse is nothing to scoff at as well. The women's hockey team also continues to assert their dominance on the ice.
American fans who are still on an Olympic high got another dopamine hit as Team USA released an interesting statistic.
Team USA's official Instagram account posted an image that showcased which states produced the most Olympian medalists in the recently concluded games. To no one's surprise, Minnesota is at the top of the list with 13 of the nation's medals.
Michigan is a close second to the Land of 10,000 Lakes with 11 medals, with Colorado and California rounding out the top three with eight medals each.
Fans quickly toasted the states in the comments. Minnesotans were especially stoked at the recognition.
"Proud Minnesotan!" influencer Patriotic Kenny wrote.
"MINNESOTA MENTIONED RAHHHHH," another MN native commented.
"This really was the perfect time to celebrate Minnesotans!" one fan posted.
"Minnesota comin in hot!" an ardent fan from MN said.
One was happy that the entire post was made. "Proud of Team USA!" they started. "Fun to see the breakdown of states for each athlete. Go Minnesota!"
Ice dancer and silver medalist Ethan Bates also gave his home state a shoutout, mentioning Michigan with a fire emoji next to it.
